My last two blogs are trackbacks, I just thought I'd go back a bit, so Maanu, pls don't wonder what's happening okay? I tracked back to this blog due to Shine's meaningful comments. I totally agree with what Shine said, I thought that was a pretty good assessment of life!

Why We Are All Selfish and Why We Should Be
Okay, I know the heading looks set to spark off controversy. It's just that I told some of my friends last night that we are all selfish, much to everyones indignation! 'How could you call us all selfish'? 'Are we all selfish?, no way' were some of the responses I got.
firstly I was very tired and groggy last night, and secondly recent experiences in my life have just highlighted that fact a tad more. Here's why I say we are all selfish, even when we seem selfless in our acts.
We talk about love being unselfish, but maybe we keep our loved ones happy, because that will make certain they stay with us. Happy couples last longer, stay longer as couples and we need our partners as much as they need us.
We talk about a mother's unconditional love, when it is her own child it holds true more often, but we seemed to be programmed to be that way. A mother has to put herself second to the child, cos the kid's well being is essential for the survival of the species.
A man would happily lay down his life for his wife, maybe because the mother is more essential for the kids upbringing.
We talk about caring for others, for best friends, for pets etc. But the act of caring is as beneficial to the care giver as it is for the cared for. That's why they say it's good for elderly lonely people to own pets, caring for the pets seems to be a health benefit for the owners.
We talk about working together as teams, as friends to achieve things in society. Maybe we do that since working in teams improves the teams chances and thereby our own chance of survival in society.
Selfishness even though it is considered to be a 'un wholesome' characteristic, might well be the most important characteristic for survival. and when it comes down to the crunch, wouldn't you rather be, a person who does everything to preserve yourself and thereby increase your worth to society, than be a selfless fool who perishes early due to the lack of self preservation?
self - family - friends - country - society - world.
Shouldn't that be the logical order of preservation? Just a thought........
